PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE FOR PULASKI ROTARY CLUB
Rotary promotes peace and international understanding through its educational and humanitarian programs......locally and internationally. Rotary is one of the largest international humanitarian service organizations in the world. In Pulaski club members are business and professional leaders who are committed volunteers working together to improve our community. The Rotary motto is "Service Above Self." Not only in Pulaski, Tn. but worldwide.
Our local international project is a very serious one and our commitment is strong as we enter our third year of support for the Honduras water project. Our neighboring club in Lawrenceburg, led by District 6760 Asst. Governor Neal Beard, brought this project to our attention asking for assistance. Many third world countries struggle daily just to have clean water for their families, food is scarce and every day has challenges, but water is essential for living. With the financial help from Rotary as well as volunteers actually giving weeks of their vacation time, Rotary has been able to bring fresh water and electricity to numerous villages in Honduras. We are not finished. Each year finds a new group of volunteers as well as the seasoned travelers on the way to these villages, anxious for the opportunity to actually make clean water a reality. Rotary is proud of the progress being made with our help.
Local projects are many and each member of the local club is an active participant. I will mention just a few:
Lifeline- If you are not familiar with this service, please contact our local Rotarian Larry Watson for details. If you or a family member live alone and need the comfort of having emergency access easily available, this can be a "lifeline" for you.
Local Imagination Library- This is a program endorsed by the Governor of Tn. In his Books from Birth initiative and partnered with the Dolly Pardon Imagination Library Foundation. The purpose is to have each child in Giles County receive a free book each month from birth to 5 yrs. of age. This is to encourage parents and children to spend time together reading and strengthen the love of books and reading for our youth. Our club is one of the founding partners of this program and primary funding sources.
Red Carpet Horse Show- This event is led by Rotarian Robert Brindley Jr. and is the major source of revenue for our club. The total proceeds from this show are given back to the community in donations.
There are so many other worthwhile avenues for service within our local Rotary Club and I would encourage anyone interested in "Service Above Self" to get involved. We need all the volunteers we can find. Please feel free to contact me personally if you have any questions about your participation in Rotary.
Sincerely,
Judy Pruett
